I love Ted Chiang's writing. Instead of dwelling on the tropes and aesthetics of science fiction, in each short story he paints a unique vision of the future that consistently suprises and amazes.
The way Kimmerer justaposes a scientific perspective and her personal experience to craft stories from and about moss is incredible. It's also super interesting to hear about Native American stories and points of view from someone of that heritage.
This is the book that inspired the theming of this website as well as my general fascination for studying the mathematical properties of organic forms. I also love the concept of modeling of speculative life based on existing forms.

Xian Famous Foods was the first restaurant I visited when I moved to New York. Growing up in the midwest, Chinese food was a monolith to me. XFF for me was a delicious realization that Chinese food was much more diverse than I had previously understood.

This is the first fantasy / steampunk book I've read with a with a middle eastern setting and cultural focus. Some of the best world building I've ever read.
These stories blend the line between science fiction and fantasy in a lovely way, providing novel representations of Chinese culture in genres its often stereotyped in. Representation aside, these are also just amazing stories full stop.
