Steel pan music has such a beautiful tone... Feels wistfully reflecting on good times
A sentimental song that's melancholy in just the right way. It reminds me of childhood, fall, and time gone by.
This is the book that really helped me understand the concepts behind Einstein's research and break past the jargon.
A short and sweet take on one of my favorite MF DOOM tracks. The sample loops in my head long after.
Beautiful art, tightly written, 10/10. This manga begins with exploring the concept of the fantasy "dungeon" as an ecosystem before rapidly spiralling into a wider narrative about what it means to be human – all through the lens of eating!
I love the soundscape this song builds. It feels a little Lofi in a more ethereal and atmospheric way.
Having read "Stories of your life and many others" first, I was nervous this collection would not meet my sky high expectations. Not to fear, these stories seemed to tick by like the second hand of a clock.
One of my favorite R&B tracks. Love Daniel Caesar's voice...
A song that brings me peace. This song feels like walking a moor on a misty morning.
Xian Famous Foods was the first restaurant I visited when I moved to New York. Growing up in the midwest, Chinese food was a monolith to me. XFF for me was a delicious realization that Chinese food was much more diverse than I had previously understood.
These stories blend the line between science fiction and fantasy in a lovely way, providing novel representations of Chinese culture in genres its often stereotyped in. Representation aside, these are also just amazing stories full stop.
I'm a sucker for sci-fi and worldbuiling. The imagery of a galactic Aztec empire with the food, culture, cities, and linguistics to match was a feast for the imagination..
A song that makes me feel like the funky monkey himself.
Reads as a collection of short narratives exploring the interactions between American Indigenous culture, the land, and the author. This book touched the part of me that squat by the sidewalk to watch ants crawl by and tumbles through a meadow.
The illustrations in these stories are amazing. They're dynamic, whimsical, and beautifully colored, bringing a whole new life to each short story.
This is the book that inspired the theming of this website as well as my general fascination for studying the mathematical properties of organic forms. I also love the concept of modeling of speculative life based on existing forms.
Love the way this album is produced. Catchy, energetic, and super fun.
I love Ted Chiang's writing. Instead of dwelling on the tropes and aesthetics of science fiction, in each short story he paints a unique vision of the future that consistently suprises and amazes.
This is the first fantasy / steampunk book I've read with a with a middle eastern setting and cultural focus. Some of the best world building I've ever read.
This reading is dense and not very fun reading but presents a super interesting perspective on being.
The way Kimmerer justaposes a scientific perspective and her personal experience to craft stories from and about moss is incredible. It's also super interesting to hear about Native American stories and points of view from someone of that heritage.
I love the textures and qualities of these sounds. This song feels like softly striking a gong with a fluffy mallet
A catchy ballad from one of my favorite artists. To me this song feels like yearning for a connection lost to happenstance.
The cuisines of the regions along the historical Silk Road are underappreciated in American culture. This book provides a fascinating look at select dishes and their cultural history.
Started listening to this song because it had my name in it but I've grown to really love it.
As a Chinese American, Jon Kung's discussion of the "third culture" experience speaks to my heart not to mention the recipes. I regularly make the asian chicken salads and clay pot rice.
A combination of the whimsical and macabre, the narratives and settings Hayashida creates are unlike any other media that I've ever interacted with.
A quick album interlude.
